Gas stations are part of the category of activities with a high pollution potential due to the use of toxic and flammable substances that lead to contamination of groundwater, waterways, soil and atmosphere; plus the ability to cause accidents such as fires and explosions in densely urbanized areas. Thus, environmental agencies have given special importance to the monitoring of these activities in order to avoid adverse effects on environmental quality. The recovery of environmental matrices contaminated by hydrocarbons is costly and expensive, it requires a long period of time and is often not possible to recover all environmental conditions. Brazilian environmental legislation has the precautionary principle; therefore, the activities that interact with the environment should be governed by preventive criteria. This study aimed to identify the most vulnerable areas will impact where the gas stations, as well as establishments that do not comply with the legislation in Salvador, Bahia. For this, we carried out the spatial distribution of gas stations through the use of GIS technology to examine the environmental aspects and use and occupation of urban land involved. Instruments such as the Bank of urban facilities data and maps of environmental city were used for the passage of the areas of influence with the characteristics of each river basin. Therefore, they were generated thematic maps with the classification of river basins at low, medium or high risk, as well as legislative irregularities.
